Now that the Entertainment Quarter is all bumped out, my Mardi Gras fever has settled and I am able to look at the season with clear eyes. I’m reflecting over everything I did and I want to tell you about the moment that glittered more brightly than everything else: The Blow Waves live at the Supper Club.
There is no real way to describe The Blow Waves experience. I mean, they call their music an electro pop/cock rock fusion, for goodness sake. That doesn’t even mean anything. It is a good sentence for lazy writers to regurgitate over and over again, as evidenced by the wealth of online reviews where it keeps popping up.
I’m having just as much trouble defining them. The Blow Waves manage to be dark, dirty, light and fluffy, all at the same time. I know that much. I also pretty much despise live music. A life-time of reviewing crap at the Metro has made me into a hater. Yet during the entire set of this band I was front and center. Glued to the dancefloor and transfixed by the show that unfolded before me.
Their music is very, very, good. And funny. I don’t know what the hell to call it but I would happily follow these bitches from show to show, like the world’s biggest groupie.
Did I mention they are really sexy? No? I probably should have done. Um, it just so happens that I have developed a man crush on the Blow Waves keyboard player, Byron St John. He is so pretty. He has perfect legs, which he displayed in hot pants and high heels.
I can’t thank my friend Bongo enough for taking me to the show and opening my eyes. It was one of the free events at The Supper Club and it was more impressive than the shows I saw at the big party. If you missed their MG sets, don’t make the same mistake in the future. If The Blow Waves are on the bill, make sure you are first in line, with me. Just keep your filthy eyes off Byron. He belongs to me now.

What a great way to describe The Blow Waves! “Dark and dirty, light and fluffy all at the same time.” I have seen them many times, in fact I see them as often as I can and every time I do my ears come away vibrating with delight, my eyes are filled with hot legs and hot Pants (the bass player John Pants is my crush) and my body has finally been given a good hour to move move move, a satisfaction that I too have gotten from no other live band.
